Using cannabis to treat substance dependency may sound counter-intuitive to some, but not to the good people at High Sobriety, a new “cannabis inclusive treatment” rehab facility in Los Angeles, CA.
The founder, Joe Schrank, has 20+ years of sobriety, and has been in the recovery industry for many of those years, and he believes that steering people away from potentially lethal drugs like alcohol, heroine and methamphetamine is as valid as complete abstinence, which is the typical strategy of most "traditional" drug treatment programs.
He believes that far from being a gateway drug, Cannabis is an "exit" drug; one that gives addicts a safe, legal, non-lethal alternative to alcohol and street drugs.
Suffice to say, his view is controversial, but it is an idea that is gaining traction in the drug rehabilitation community as cannabis use, and cannabis therapies, become more common, more accepted, and legal.
