The shipping crates that arrived in the West Village were labelled “art” and “auto parts,” but that’s not what they held inside. Instead, the cops found over 300 lbs of California Marijuana, that had been shipped via freight to Newark, and driven into Manhattan.
“The shipment contained a total of 193 airtight weed bags, each weighing roughly 1.5 pounds” according to authorities, and, once broken down and sold in smaller amounts, they say that the “street value” of the weed could have been close to $1,000,000!
The shipment was discovered based on a tip, and Narcotics Officers intercepted it after it was unloaded from a commercial shipping truck by two men who are now potentially facing 20+ years each having been charged with Criminal Drug Possession in the 1st Degree.
Soon enough, scenes like this will be a thing of the past as legalization evolves from an anomaly to the standard, but in the meantime, the conflict between the demand for the world's most popular plant and the law continues …
